Job summary

Vogrinc Search Group seeks a hands-on Embedded OS Engineer to own the Ubuntu-based Linux firmware stack for a drone platform on Qualcomm QRB5165 hardware. You will build the OS, keep it secure, and ship it through automated CI/CD pipelines in a headless embedded environment.

The role requires deep knowledge of Yocto/BitBake, image recipes, and kernel/user-space interactions. You will optimize builds, harden security, and maintain robust post-build customization for field deployments.

Qualifications

• Experience with Yocto/BitBake build system and Linux image creation.
• Comfort working with headless embedded hardware and limited recovery options.
• Familiarity with secure OS hardening and post-build customization.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the teal-mk2-build repository, including layer configuration and image recipes for the qti-ubuntu-robotics-image.
• Write and maintain .bb recipes and .bbappend overlays; create patches against the pinned BSP so upstream sources are not modified directly.
• Debug BitBake task failures and optimize build performance by tuning PARALLEL_MAKE and sstate-cache usage.
• Manage package inclusion, exclusion, and inter-recipe dependencies to produce lean images.
• Implement ROOTFS_POSTPROCESS_COMMAND for post-build customization, upgrades, and security patching.
• Remove unnecessary services from production images (e.g., lighttpd, TFTP) to reduce attack surface.
• Develop systemd services/units for headless operation with reliable boot sequences.
• Configure systemd-networkd for runtime network mode switching and LED feedback; ensure field diagnostics tooling.
• Develop Prometheus/node_exporter integrations for drone fleet health monitoring.
