Job summary

Ammortal, Inc. is seeking a senior software engineer to own embedded Linux application software for the Chamber. You will develop the software layer that communicates with hardware over serial/bus protocols and occasionally touch frontend work to ship complete features.

You'll work closely with hardware, OT partners, and the rest of the software team in a hybrid role based in Mars Hill, NC, with 2–3 in-office days and strong ownership opportunities for technical leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering on Linux-based systems.
• Proficiency in Go, C, or C++, plus Python or JavaScript.
• Experience interfacing software with hardware over serial or bus protocols.
• Strong Linux command-line, system-level debugging, and tooling.
• Experience shipping production software in a microservice/distributed architecture.
• Git and modern CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and development of Chamber application software on embedded Linux, including hardware communication over serial and bus protocols.
• Lead architectural decisions for our microservices-based platform and drive them through to implementation.
• Define and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, and deployment.
• Act as the technical escalation point for complex customer and field issues.
• Maintain and occasionally extend early-gen Chamber software.
• Contribute to frontend work as needed to ship complete features.
• Collaborate with hardware, operations, and customer experience teammates to deliver end-to-end solutions.
