Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. in Sugar Land, TX, seeks a Senior Electron Microscopy Engineer to advance semiconductor laser failure analysis, process troubleshooting, and yield improvement.

You will be a subject-matter expert in FIB, SEM, EDX/EDS, TEM/STEM, HRTEM, and diffraction, lead advanced sample preparation, analyze crystallographic defects, and drive root-cause investigations with cross-functional teams. Location on site in Sugar Land; relocation and immigration sponsorships available.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of industrial experience.
• Expertise in advanced electron microscopy and FIB sample prep.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced electron microscopy analysis using FIB, SEM, EDX/EDS, TEM/STEM, HRTEM, and diffraction to identify defects and failure mechanisms.
• Develop advanced FIB sample-preparation methods including site-specific cross-sectional lamella preparation and plan-view TEM prep.
• Analyze crystallographic and process-induced defects and correlate microscopy results to materials and processes.
• Oversee microscopy lab operations, equipment performance, methods, and SOPs; train technicians and engineers.
• Collaborate with Process Eng., Epitaxy, Yield, Reliability, Quality, and R&D to investigate failures.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to teams and management.
