Job summary

KFI Engineers is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design for utilities and central energy projects in Minnesota. You will manage power distribution, medium voltage, and building systems, while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting business development.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience, PE licensure (or pursuit), and strong communication skills to manage clients and projects from concept to commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience.
• Professional Engineering registration or willingness to pursue this designation.
• Proven proficiency in electrical utility generation and distribution design.
• Experience with Process, Instrumentation, and Controls is beneficial.
• Knowledge of NEC/NFPA/NESC/IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

• Designs and supports power distribution systems (primary requirement).
• Designs medium-voltage and 480-volt power systems for industrial, utility, and building applications.
• Designs building power and lighting systems with protection and UPS.
• Performs power system studies (load flow, short-circuit, arc flash) using SKM PTW.
• Prepares engineering docs and specifications to meet scope and codes.
• Reviews contractor submittals and equipment selections.
• Creates project plans and schedules for execution.
• Develops labor and cost estimates and manages scope/budget.
• Coordinates with other departments, teams, and contractors.
• Provides field support, startup and commissioning assistance.
