Position Overview

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior P&C engineer to join the team in the Boston, MA, New York, NY, or Iselin, NJ offices. This role involves hands-on engineering with a broad knowledge of electrical utility experience, engineering principles, and practices acquired through progressive experience and education. The candidate should have a background in protection & controls for switching stations and substations to develop and implement designs for transmission and distribution projects. Knowledge of Short circuit Studies, Relay Settings Calculations, and Database files is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design P&C for electrical utility projects at distribution and transmission voltages for switching stations and substations from 4kV up to 500kV.
2. Work independently on P&C drawings including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, relay protection schematics, instrumentation, SCADA controls, and more.
3. Coordinate design efforts with other engineers, system protection teams, and field personnel.
4. Calculate AC/DC load bank sizes and battery banks.
5. Provide guidance and conduct quality reviews of P&C designs by junior staff or contractors.
6. Coordinate with vendors and review technical documentation related to P&C design.
7. Lead a team of designers for complex projects and participate in technical discussions with clients.
8. Design and support the engineering and testing of microprocessor relays, high voltage equipment, SCADA systems, etc.
9. Estimate and schedule P&C work for bids and proposals.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; Master's preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in protection, control, and SCADA systems.
• At least 5 years of experience in electrical utility switching stations/substations.
• Proficiency with protective relay schemes, fiber optic communication, SCADA, and power distribution controls.
• Experience with complex control schematics and electrical layout drawings.
• Knowledge of NERC and IEEE standards.
• Ability to mentor junior staff.
• Excellent communication skills.
• PE registration is preferred.
