Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior P&C Engineer to join our team in the Boston, MA, New York, NY, or Iselin, NJ offices. This role involves hands-on engineering with a broad knowledge of electrical utility experience, engineering principles, and practices acquired through progressive experience and education. The candidate should have a background in protection & controls for switching stations and substations, with knowledge of Short Circuit Studies, Relay Settings Calculations, and Database files being advantageous.
Design P&C systems for electrical utility projects at distribution and transmission voltages for switching stations and substations from 4kV up to 500kV.
Work independently on P&C drawings including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, relay protection schematics, instrumentation, SCADA controls, wiring diagrams, and control house layouts.
Coordinate design efforts with other engineers, system protection teams, construction supervisors, and field personnel.
Calculate AC and DC load bank sizes, battery banks, and related components.
Review and guide P&C design work by junior staff or contractors, ensuring quality and technical accuracy.
Engage with vendors and manufacturers, reviewing technical documentation related to P&C systems.
Lead design teams for complex projects and participate in technical discussions with clients.
Possess experience with microprocessor relays, high voltage equipment, GIS, SCADA, and controls for systems up to 500kV.
Assist in estimating and scheduling P&C work for bids and proposals.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; Master's preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in protection, control, and SCADA systems.
At least 5 years of experience in electrical utility switching stations/substations, with knowledge of equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, GIS, and related protection & controls.
Proficiency with protective relay schemes, fiber optic communication, SCADA, and power distribution controls.
Experience with complex control schematics, NERC and IEEE Standards, and mentoring junior staff.
Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred.

The salary range varies by location: New York: $137,000 - $167,000; New Jersey: $131,000 - $161,000; Massachusetts: $135,000 - $165,000. Compensation is determined based on experience, education, and skills.
