Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Lead P&C Engineer to join the team in the Boston, MA, New York, NY, or Iselin, NJ offices. In this role, you will lead the North Division, managing and growing a team of P&C engineers and SCADA specialists. This position is ideal for a very senior candidate eager to oversee a full team and drive excellence in engineering projects. It involves hands-on engineering, requiring broad knowledge of electrical utility experience, engineering principles, and practices acquired through progressive experience and education. A background in protection & controls for switching stations and substations to develop and implement designs for transmission and distribution projects is essential. Knowledge of Short circuit Studies, Relay Settings Calculations, and Database files is a plus.

Your duties will include:

1. Able to provide P&C design for electrical utility projects for distribution and transmission voltages for Switching stations and Substations from 4kV up to and including 500kV.
2. Lead and mentor a team of P&C / SCADA engineers and specialists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
3. Develop and implement strategies to grow the North Division, ensuring the team is equipped to handle increasing project demands.
4. Drive performance and accountability within the team, setting clear goals and expectations.
5. Proficient in working independently on P&C drawings: one lines, three lines diagrams, Ac/DC Distribution diagrams, relay protection and control schematics, instrumentation and alarm schematics, SCADA controls, racks and panels layouts, wiring diagrams, control house layouts, cable schedules, and bill of materials.
6. Coordinate design with electrical layout designers and engineers, system protection, construction supervisors, commissioning engineers, and field personnel.
7. Experience in calculating AC and DC load bank sizes and battery banks.
8. Provide guidance and quality reviews of P&C designs done by junior designers or contractors.
9. Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers and review technical documentation related to P&C design.
10. Lead a team of designers for complex projects and participate in technical discussions with clients as needed.
11. Proven experience with engineering and design of microprocessor relays for transmission and distribution lines, busses, transformers, PARs, reactors, capacitors for switching stations and substations 4kV-500kV. Deep knowledge of controls of high voltage breakers, GIS, high voltage equipment monitoring, and SCADA.
12. Participate in and/or lead efforts for estimating/scheduling P&C work on engineering bids/proposals.

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

1. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required; a Master's degree is a plus.
2. 15+ years of experience as an electrical engineer in protection, control, and/or SCADA.
3. At least 5 years of prior work experience in each of the following areas: electrical utility switching stations/substations, transformers, circuit breakers, medium voltage switchgear, GIS, regulators, capacitor banks, fiber optic communication, oil pumping plants, and their protection & controls.
4. Proficient knowledge and experience with protective relay schemes, fiber optic communication, SCADA, metering, AC & DC power distribution and controls, alarms, and equipment monitoring systems.
5. Experience working on complex control schematics for protective relays, control schematics, alarms, auxiliary power, SCADA, and metering circuits, with an understanding of electrical layout drawings.
6. Knowledge of NERC and IEEE Standards.
7. Ability to train and mentor junior staff in technical matters related to design.
8. Good written and oral communication skills.
9. PE-Professional Engineer registration is preferred.

The expected salary for this position varies by location:

• Massachusetts: $147,000 - $180,000
• New York: $149,000 - $182,000
• New Jersey: $140,000 - $172,000

Salary is determined based on various factors including location, education, experience, and skills.
