Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior P&C Engineer to join our team in the Boston, MA, New York, NY, or Iselin, NJ offices. This role involves hands-on engineering, requiring broad knowledge of electrical utility experience, engineering principles, and practices gained through experience and education. The candidate should have a background in protection & controls for switching stations and substations, developing and implementing designs for transmission and distribution projects. Knowledge of Short Circuit Studies, Relay Settings Calculations, and Database files is a plus.

Your duties will include:

1. Able to provide P&C design for electrical utility projects for distribution and transmission voltages for switching stations and substations from 4kV up to and including 500kV.
2. Proficient in working independently on P&C drawings: one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC distribution diagrams, relay protection and control schematics, instrumentation and alarm schematics, SCADA controls, racks and panels layouts, wiring diagrams, control house layouts, cable schedules, and bills of materials.
3. Coordinate design with electrical layout designers and engineers, system protection, construction supervisors, commissioning engineers, and field personnel.
4. Experience in calculating AC and DC load bank sizes and battery banks.
5. Provide guidance and quality reviews of P&C designs done by junior designers or contractors.
6. Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers, review technical documentation related to P&C design.
7. Lead a team of designers on complex projects and participate in technical discussions with clients.
8. Proven experience with engineering and design of microprocessor relays for transmission and distribution lines, buses, transformers, PARs, reactors, capacitors, and controls of high voltage equipment, GIS, and SCADA.
9. Participate in or lead efforts for estimating and scheduling P&C work for bids and proposals.

Candidate Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; a Master's is a plus.
• 10+ years of experience in protection and control and/or SCADA.
• At least 5 years of experience in electrical utility switching stations/substations, including equipment like transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, GIS, regulators, capacitor banks, fiber optic communication, and oil pumping plants.
• Proficient in protective relay schemes, fiber optic communication, SCADA, metering, power distribution, alarms, and equipment monitoring systems.
• Experience with complex control schematics for protective relays, alarms, auxiliary power, SCADA, and metering circuits.
• Knowledge of NERC and IEEE standards.
• Ability to train and mentor junior staff.
• Strong communication skills.
• PE registration is preferred.

The expected salary varies by location: New York: $137,000 - $167,000; New Jersey: $131,000 - $161,000; Massachusetts: $135,000 - $165,000. Actual salary depends on experience, education, and skills.
