Job summary

WSP USA seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer to join the Property & Buildings team in California, potentially based in any CA office. The role combines technical leadership with client engagement and business development to grow our building practice.

The successful candidate will guide electrical design across complex building projects, from concept through construction, working with clients and teams to ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or architectural engineering is required.
• 7–10 years of post-education electrical engineering experience.
• Extensive knowledge of electrical design for building projects, especially education/institutional sectors.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, design/build processes, permitting.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
• Ability to coordinate with regulators and understand requirements.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit; strong technical writing and communication.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance collecting, compiling, and analyzing data for design work and procurement packages.
• Coordinate, review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for smaller projects, ensuring code compliance.
• Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques across concept to operation phases.
• Design single line and three-line diagrams, bus layout, grounding, and protection schemes.
• Incorporate future-ready design considerations and equipment sizing strategies.
• Review calculations for loads, short circuit studies, and protective device coordination.
• Develop plans, specs, and cost estimates; ensure construction safety and phasing.
