Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced electrical/architectural engineer to design battery energy storage systems and integrate them into traditional power facilities. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop construction-ready packages, write technical specifications, and mentor junior engineers.

The role requires a PE license, 10+ years in related design, and strong communication skills to interact with clients and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with Electrical emphasis and PE license required.
• Minimum 10 years in design of BESS, power generation, renewables, or power systems.
• Experience with NEC/NESC/IEEE standards and local codes.
• Strong technical writing and equipment specifications experience.

Responsibilities

• Support grid-scale BESS projects from concept to construction packages.
• Evaluate energy storage technologies and support vendor selection.
• Develop design plans, specs, cost estimates, and construction docs.
• Define use-cases for BESS in centralized and distributed locations.
• Prepare technical reports conveying BESS concepts and feasibility.
• Coordinate with Civil, Structural, Fire/Life Safety, HV electrical, SCADA and geotechnical teams.
• Participate in design reviews with agencies and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical support to HDR teams.
