Job summary

Sharps Medical Waste Services seeks a Senior EH&S Specialist to lead safety and regulatory compliance across a growing multi-site network. You will own audits, incident investigations, training programs, and environmental programs while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with operations and leadership.

This role requires travel and deep expertise in OSHA/EPA regulations and hazardous waste management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5-7+ years of progressive EH&S experience across manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, or regulated operations and multi-site support.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT and environmental regulations; hazardous/regulated medical waste experience required.
• Professional CSP/OSHA 30-Hour General Industry preferred; CSP a plus.
• Ability to mentor and lead cross-functional projects with minimal oversight.
• Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead compliance efforts with OSHA, EPA, DOT, DEA, CDC and state regulations across multiple sites; manage permits and documentation.
• Design and lead facility safety inspections, risk assessments, audits, and corrective action plans.
• Lead investigations of injuries, vehicle accidents, near misses and environmental incidents; ensure root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Own environmental compliance programs for regulated medical waste, hazardous waste, air emissions and stormwater; drive program design and improvement.
• Develop and deliver employee safety training programs (Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, DOT Hazmat, PPE).
• Maintain EH&S databases, training records, inspection reports and incident documentation; prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
• Analyze EH&S performance metrics across sites; lead continuous improvement initiatives.
• Serve as advisor to leadership on EH&S matters; lead emergency response planning and fleet safety initiatives.
• Mentor junior EH&S staff and ensure consistency across sites.
• Lead preparation for customer audits, regulatory inspections, plant startups and special projects.
• Travel to company locations to lead audits, investigations and training.
• Ensure timely reporting of workplace injuries to insurers and third parties.
• Perform additional duties as required.
