Job summary

Public Library of Science is seeking a Senior Editor, Publication Ethics to investigate and resolve publication ethics cases across all PLOS journals and provide ethics support to journal teams and editors.

The role emphasizes collaboration within a remote team, adherence to COPE standards, and ongoing policy development. This 12-month FTC role offers a comprehensive benefits package and a flexible, fully remote work environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in a scientific discipline.
• Experience in editorial or publication ethics role in STM publishing.
• First-hand experience resolving publication ethics cases in STM publishing.
• Knowledge of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) standards and guidance.
• Post-graduate research experience in a scientific, clinical, or social sciences discipline (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve publication ethics cases for all PLOS journals.
• Provide ethics support to journal teams and editors.
• Contribute to team-wide initiatives on ethics and integrity.
• Assist journal staff in handling manuscripts during peer review and post-publication.
• Communicate ethics case outcomes clearly to stakeholders.
• Support recruitment and onboarding for vacancies.
• Maintain professionalism in all internal and external communications.
• Attend COPE forums during working hours.
