Job summary

Curtiss-Wright is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Defense Solutions Group in Ashburn, VA. This onsite role focuses on designing and developing 3U/6U VPX SBCs, FPGA, switch and I/O cards, and custom form-factor systems with hardware security elements.

You will translate system requirements into robust hardware designs, lead verification activities, and mentor junior engineers while delivering high-reliability, manufacturable solutions for DoD embedded applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in DoD embedded systems and hardware design, including SBC, FPGA, switch, and I/O card development.
• Experience with HDI PCB designs and high-reliability environments.
• Experience with Siemens Expedition tools preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to meet schedule-driven customer requirements.
• Design and develop 3U and 6U VPX SBCs, FPGA, switch, and I/O cards for high-speed data processing.
• Develop custom form-factor systems including SBC, FPGA, switch, and I/O cards, power supplies, and thermal management elements.
• Translate system requirements into practical hardware designs and influence performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
• Perform hardware design analysis, troubleshooting, and technical evaluations throughout the development lifecycle.
• Support hardware verification, qualification, and production by developing and executing test plans.
• Apply engineering best practices to improve product performance, reliability, and time-to-market (TTM).
• Develop and maintain technical procedures, design documentation, and engineering manuals.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
