Blue Origin is seeking a senior mechanical design engineer to develop safety-critical docking mechanism components and support the full design cycle from concept to qualification for spaceflight hardware. You will work with NASA and partners in a fast-paced environment, delivering GD&T-compliant drawings and integration documentation.

Role emphasizes leadership, rigorous engineering judgment, and collaboration within the Lunar Permanence unit’s Docking Mechanisms Subsystem.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
• 5+ years of experience designing aerospace or equivalent type mechanical system elements within aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles
• Strong mechanical design, integration, and mechanism analysis skills using 3D modeling and simulation tools (CREO preferred).
• Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, integration, and qualification testing
• Proficient in technical writing, communicating sophisticated ideas clearly and concisely
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop safety critical mechanical components and systems for pressurized docking mechanisms.
• Participate in flight hardware design cycle: conceptual to qualification, plus drawings and ICDs with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Create assembly/testing documentation for development and flight hardware.
• Plan and execute subsystem testing; develop specs and manage suppliers.
• Leverage experience to design non-flight, proof-of-concept hardware for fast-moving R&D projects.
• Join a small, agile team to adapt to shifting priorities.
