Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Columbus, OH, seeks a Staff Distribution Engineer to lead 2.4kV–34.5kV distribution design on overhead and underground systems. You will collaborate with project teams through design and construction, adapting plans to budgets and client needs.

You will prepare voltage packages, cost estimates, BOMs, and perform calculations like voltage drop and pole loading. NESC standards, field inspections, and client presentations are also key parts of the role.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree with 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Alternative: Engineering/Engineering Technology degree with FE exam and 3 years’ experience.
• Master’s degree in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow.
• Proficiency in distribution design software and GIS.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• EIT Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects.
• Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading.
• Apply knowledge of NESC standards, utility standards, and procedures.
• Research and compile project-related data for managers.
• Perform field inspections for overhead and underground facilities.
• Prepare communications regarding vegetation management, ROW, and outage planning.
• Develop client presentations and visualizations to show results and status.
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with policies.
