Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Columbus, OH is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer to assist licensed engineers in designing high-voltage substations from concept through construction. You will help prepare design packages, perform electrical studies, and support field inspections on utility projects.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering program or related field required with strong fundamentals.
• FE exam completion required or encouraged for progression.
• EIT certification preferred as a signaling credential.
• GPA 3.0+ strongly preferred for candidate evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of substation projects from concept through completion.
• Prepare and develop substation design packages including arrangement, protection, relaying, and control.
• Develop substation calculations (insulation, voltage drop, cable sizing, etc.).
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs and other deliverables.
• Apply IEEE, NESC, and related standards and procedures.
• Assist with field inspections of substation facilities.
• Research and compile project-related data for managers.
• Assist with client presentations and project visualizations.
• Communicate and resolve issues to meet project schedules and QA/QC requirements.
