Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Columbus, OH, seeks a Staff Distribution Engineer to lead distribution design for overhead and underground projects from concept through construction. You will work with project teams and adapt plans to budget and client needs.

Responsibilities include developing voltage packages, performing calculations, preparing BOMs, and presenting findings. ABET-accredited degree with 3+ years of experience; FE/EIT preferred. Up to 15% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program with 3 years of relevant experience
• Alternative: Bachelor's in Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited program, FE exam completed and 3 years of relevant experience
• Master's in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience required
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow
• Proficiency with distribution design software and GIS

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables
• Perform distribution calculations (cable pulling, voltage drop, pole loading)
• Apply NESC standards and utility procedures
• Perform field inspections of overhead/underground facilities
• Prepare and disseminate project communications (vegetation management, ROW, outages)
• Develop client presentations and visualizations showing results and status
• Comply with policies and standards
