Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer for our US OH Akron/Columbus area. You will lead design deliverables for high-voltage substations, from conceptual through construction, adapting plans to budget, design factors, and client needs.

You will oversee design packages, calculations, equipment specs, BOMs, and proposals while guiding teams, conducting field inspections, and ensuring QA/QC compliance. PE preferred and FE is often required for progression.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering with 7 years' substation experience.
• Experience leading design packages and field inspections.
• Strong written and verbal communication; analytical/problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
• Develop design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and equipment specs.
• Ensure QA/QC guidelines and client satisfaction.
• Coordinate with project team and manage schedules and budgets.
