Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) seeks a Sr Director of Project Planning in Queens, NY to lead planning, development and management of major capital projects for the LIRR and Transportation Services.

The role demands extensive experience in transportation operations, budgeting, policy development, and collaboration with internal and external partners; on-site readiness and 24/7 coverage are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent experience considered.
• Minimum 12 years LIRR transportation operations experience, with 7 years in operations management.
• Qualified on operating rules and equipment; Amtrak Zone A knowledge highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct day-to-day operations of the Transportation Project Management division and manage budgets.
• Provide direction for future projects including reimbursable and capital improvements.
• Oversee interface with internal departments and external partners.
• Develop policies, guidelines and ad hoc requests with CTO support.
• Mentor and develop department staff; ensure safe working conditions.
• Lead readiness for seasonal operations and emergencies.
• Provide 24/7 operational oversight and executive communications when needed.
