Job summary

The University of New Haven seeks a Director of Payroll & Student Employment to lead the in-house payroll function and the Student Employment Office. You will oversee weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for faculty, staff, and students, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and union requirements through Banner and time-tracking systems.

This role provides policy direction, strategic leadership of payroll operations, and collaboration with IT and HR on system upgrades.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, or related field with 8+ years in senior payroll management.
• Five years of supervisory experience in payroll.
• Expertise in end-to-end payroll, knowledge of payroll taxes and reporting.
• Strong communication, analytical, and confidentiality skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct payroll activities and supervise administrative staff.
• Oversee Student Employment Office and staff.
• Develop and enforce payroll and SEO policies.
• Lead payroll operations with Banner, time systems, and reporting.
• Prepare federal/state payroll tax reports and year-end tasks.
• Advise departments on payroll and tax issues.
• Coordinate with Business Office to post payroll to GL and reconciliations.
• Support system changes and IT/HR implementations.
