Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is the most progressive provider of solid waste and recycling services in the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut markets, with a rail-served landfill in Ohio. The Level A Fleet Mechanic/Technician leads advanced diagnostics, complete rebuilds, and sets safety and quality standards for the fleet, coordinating with maintenance leadership to drive uptime.

As a senior technician, you will train Level B–E staff, ensure regulatory compliance (DOT, FMCSA, OSHA), and

Qualifications

5+ years hands-on diesel/heavy-equipment experience with diagnostics and major component overhaul.
CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement preferred; valid license required.
Proven ability to perform complete rebuilds and diagnose complex issues.
ASE Master certification or OEM certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead diagnosis and repair of complex issues across engines, hydraulics, and powertrains.
Provide technical leadership and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
Collaborate with operations to minimize downtime and plan workload.
