Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Level A Fleet Mechanic/Technician in the NYC tri-state area. You will lead advanced diagnostics, perform complex repairs on refuse trucks and heavy equipment, and set safety and quality standards across the fleet.

You will train junior technicians, work with maintenance leadership to improve uptime, and ensure all work complies with DOT and environmental regulations. CDL and ASE certifications strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on diesel mechanic experience with advanced diagnostics.
• CDL Class B or A with air brake endorsement preferred due to road tests.
• ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician or OEM certs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex issues in diesel trucks and refuse equipment.
• Provide on-the-job training and coaching to junior technicians.
• Ensure maintenance aligns with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and local regulations.
• Support road calls and on-site repairs across the NYC tri-state area.
• Plan shop workload and assist in parts specification and warranty recovery.
