Job summary

Interstate Waste Services in the NYC area seeks a Level B Fleet Mechanic/Technician to diagnose and repair diesel trucks, trailers and heavy equipment, mentor junior techs, and keep the fleet compliant with DOT standards.

You'll diagnose engines, drivetrains, brakes, hydraulics and electrical systems, perform PMs, respond to road calls in NY/NJ/CT, and document work orders. CDL-B preferred, ASE a plus; wage $25-$35/hr.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3–5+ years as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic.
• Valid CDL Class B with air brake endorsement preferred.
• Experience with refuse/solid waste fleets preferred.
• ASE certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck or Truck Equipment preferred.
• Familiarity with OEM manuals and wiring diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Independently diagnose and repair diesel engines, drivetrains, brakes, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Perform and sign off on DOT inspections and PMs with proper documentation.
• Respond to road calls in NYC tri-state area and coordinate towing as needed.
• Mentor Level C technicians and document work orders thoroughly.
• Support continuous improvement for PM compliance and parts standardization.
