Job summary

Interstate Waste Services in the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut markets seeks a Level A Fleet Mechanic/Technician to uphold safety, quality, and uptime. You will perform rebuilds, advanced diagnostics, and complex repairs, setting the standard for performance and training within the shop.

This hands-on role requires diesel expertise, the ability to coach junior technicians, and strict adherence to DOT, FMCSA and environmental regulations to ensure fleet readiness for daily

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training strongly preferred.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience as a diesel/heavy-equipment mechanic with advanced diagnostics and major component overhaul.
• CDL Class B or A with air brake endorsement required or strongly preferred due to frequent road tests.
• Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of heavy truck systems, diagnostics tools, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex diagnostics and repairs on engines, hydraulics, and emissions systems.
• Provide on-the-job training and coaching to technicians.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA and environmental regulations.
• Plan shop workload and allocate jobs by technician skill level.
