Interstate Waste Services in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a Level B Fleet Mechanic/Technician to diagnose and repair diesel and heavy equipment, ensuring high uptime and DOT compliance across the fleet.

You will perform preventive maintenance, interpret manuals and wiring diagrams, mentor Level C technicians, respond to road calls in the NYC tri-state area, and document work orders and parts usage. ASE certs and a CDL-B are preferred for optimal performance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3-5+ years hands-on experience as a diesel, truck, or heavy equipment mechanic/technician, including diagnostics and major component replacement.
• CDL Class B with air brake endorsement strongly preferred to perform road tests and move equipment on public roads within NY/NJ/CT.
• Proficiency with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Responsabilités

• Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, drivetrain components, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Perform DOT-compliant inspections and PMs; document safety items and recurring defects for root-cause analysis.
• Respond to road calls and breakdowns in the NYC tri-state area; coordinate towing as needed and communicate repair status.
• Mentor Level C technicians on best practices, complete work orders with accurate labor hours and parts used, support PM improvements.
