Role Summary

The Senior Design Manager leads the engineering and design team for design-build and turnkey EPC projects. This role involves proactive leadership from initial business development through project completion, ensuring project goals align with JE Dunn's strategy, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities - Core

• Interpret RFPs and develop work plans, collaborating with preconstruction, operations, and stakeholders.
• Understand client needs and create conceptual plans, elevations, and 3D models for presentations and strategies.
• Review bridging documents to ensure compliance with RFP, codes, and criteria.
• Support early-phase due diligence activities with clients and stakeholders.
• Manage outside design consultants to meet technical and schedule requirements.
• Oversee design review processes, monitor schedules, and identify risks and opportunities.
• Leverage experience to resolve project challenges, ensuring quality and schedule adherence.
• Generate cost savings and value-added solutions during design.
• Control design-related costs and review designs for quality and compliance.
• Coordinate design document strategies with the project team.
• Manage project documentation and support preconstruction with sketches and plans.
• Provide technical guidance throughout construction.
• Ensure design aligns with project budget and contractual details.

Additional Responsibilities

The Senior Design Manager also:

• Leads client engagement and conceptual design creation.
• Directs the selection and management of design professionals.
• Works with project leadership to set budgets, schedules, and influence decisions.
• Acts as a liaison with the design team to ensure accountability.
• Provides leadership from schematic design to project completion.
• Manages external design teams and external relationships.
• Handles change management with internal and external teams.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness in work.

• Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp.
• Knowledge of project processes, codes, and standards.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or related field (Required).
• 10+ years of design/construction management experience (Preferred).
• Experience with Lean principles, industrial projects, and cross-disciplinary knowledge.

Working Environment

• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and travel as needed.
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours.
• Exposure to extreme conditions possible.
• Work may occur in offices or on project sites.
