Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an experienced Responsible Engineer to own the design, analysis, and qualification of the TeraWave solar array deployment mechanism. You will guide the entire design cycle, conduct trade studies, and ensure robust integration with solar power and harness subsystems.

You will perform kinematic and structural analyses, prototype early, and drive producibility for production readiness while mentoring junior engineers in a fast-paced, space-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years of experience.
• Hands-on prototyping and testing experience required.
• Strong mechanical design, integration, and mechanism analysis skills using 3D modeling (Creo) and simulation tools.
• Experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stackup analysis.
• Familiarity with space environments and verification/qualification testing.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Responsible Engineer for the TeraWave deployment mechanism, owning design, analysis, and qualification.
• Lead the entire design cycle including trade studies, detailed design, structural analysis, testing, and qualification.
• Define deployment architecture and validation strategy with prototyping and environmental testing in space.
• Hands-on prototyping to push design forward in fast-moving R&D cycles.
• Collaborate across disciplines to ensure clean integration with solar power module and harness subsystems.
• Drive producibility, DFM/DFMA, and interface control documents per ASME Y14.5.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers working on deployment mechanisms.
