Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer focused on Solar Array Regulation for the TeraWave Spacecraft Bus. You will own the SAR from requirements through production release, balancing space-grade reliability with manufacturability at constellation scale.

You will lead circuit design, qualification planning, and integration activities, influencing design decisions that affect yield, cost, and performance in a high-rate production environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 7+ years hardware development experience.
  • Experience with solar array regulation topologies (S3R, MPPT, PPT) in spacecraft or high-reliability power systems.
  • Design experience with high-voltage power electronics above 50V and bus architecture.
  • Experience leading hardware qualification campaigns per MIL-STD-1540, SMC-S-016, ECSS-E-ST-10-03 or equivalents.
  • Radiation-tolerant or radiation-hardened design practices for space environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead circuit design for the Solar Array Regulator (SAR) including high-voltage topology choices.
  • Characterize solar array performance across illumination and temperature ranges to define margins.
  • Define thermal dissipation requirements and validate heat rejection.
  • Derive SAR hardware requirements and interface control documents with systems engineering.
  • Lead or contribute to FMEA/FMECA activities and eliminate single-point failures.
  • Optimize SAR for high-rate manufacturing, DFM/DFT, and cost targets.
  • Transition Automated Test Equipment (ATE) from development to production with validation.
  • Develop and execute MIL-STD-1540 based hardware qualification plans.
  • Serve as technical authority for SAR during vehicle integration and flight tests.
  • Maintain the complete SAR design package in PLM.
