Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Spacecraft Solar Array Engineer to own the solar array design from concept through flight-qualified production. You will manage requirements, interface control documents, and design specifications in coordination with EPS, thermal, structures, harness, and manufacturing while aligning with the vehicle program schedule.

This senior leadership role requires leading design reviews, steering trade studies, and guiding qualification campaigns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related field
• 5+ years hands-on solar panel development, 3+ years in space
• Experience designing and testing space-grade solar panels
• Familiar with AIAA S-112 and space environment effects
• High-voltage spacecraft design (>50V)
• U.S. citizenship or eligible status for export-controlled data

Responsibilities

• Own the full design and development of space-grade photovoltaic assemblies from concept through flight-qualified, production-ready hardware
• Derive and maintain solar array requirements, ICDs, and design specifications with systems engineering and adjacent subsystems
• Lead design trade studies for solar array architecture and high-voltage bus compatibility; document results and drive decisions
• Characterize solar array performance across illumination angles, temperature ranges, and space environment conditions
• Lead internal design reviews and participate in supplier/customer reviews; champion DFx principles
• Define and support tests including characterization, risk reduction, qualification, and vehicle-level testing
• Serve as the SME for solar array integration and lead troubleshooting during integration and acceptance testing
• Communicate development status, risks, and challenges to program leadership
• Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain for smooth production transition
• Maintain complete solar array design package within CM system
