Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an experienced Responsible Engineer to own the TeraWave solar array deployment mechanism's design, analysis, and qualification. You will lead the design cycle from concept through qualification, defining deployment architecture and validation strategy to prove performance in space.

You will perform hands-on prototyping, drive rapid build-test cycles, coordinate with module and harness teams, and ensure rugged producibility while meeting schedule and cost targets.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field; 8+ years of experience.
• Experience designing and building mechanical hardware (passive or active mechanisms).
• Hands-on prototyping and testing experience required.
• Strong mechanical design, integration, and mechanism analysis with 3D modeling and simulations.
• Familiarity with space environments, verification standards, and vacuum environments.
• Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and verification testing.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, analysis, and qualification of the TeraWave deployment mechanism.
• Lead the full design cycle: trade studies, conceptual and detailed design, testing, and qualification.
• Define deployment architecture and validation strategy; prove performance in space environment.
• Hands-on prototyping; drive rapid design-build-test cycles for risk reduction.
• Coordinate interfaces with solar power module, PVA, and harness teams; resolve conflicts.
• Drive producibility and DFMA to meet production rate; generate drawings and interface control documents.
• Perform flight hardware testing (TVAC, modal, vibration, functional deployment).
• Own risk register and lead issue resolution during integration and qualification.
