Job summary

Slalom seeks a Senior Database Migration Engineer to back an AI-powered modernization platform enabling scalable migrations from legacy DBs to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL. You will act as the technical authority for migration design, validation, and troubleshooting, partnering with cloud architects and AI engineers.

The role requires hands-on work with IBM DB2, Sybase ASE, and Oracle, plus proven success migrating to PostgreSQL in cloud environments.

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or database migration initiatives.
Deep expertise with legacy database platforms, including IBM DB2, Sybase ASE, Oracle Database.
Proven experience leading heterogeneous migrations to PostgreSQL or cloud-native DB services.
Strong AWS DMS and SCT knowledge.
Relational DB architecture, performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
Strong SQL development and data validation skills.
Experience executing large-scale migrations involving hundreds of tables and complex dependencies.
Excellent communication with architects, engineers, DBAs, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex database migration issues involving DB2, Sybase, Oracle, and other legacy platforms.
Serve as the technical escalation point for AI-driven schema conversions, migrations, and reconciliation failures.
Guide design and implementation of migration strategies from legacy databases to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
Support AWS DMS and SCT implementations, including full-load and CDC migration patterns.
Validate schema transformations, stored procedures, queries, indexes, and data conversion results.
Identify migration edge cases and collaborate to enhance automation and AI migration agents.
Develop reusable migration templates, best practices, and validation frameworks.
Partner with client DBAs and app teams to understand constraints, dependencies, and risks.
Ensure successful production cutovers with data validation and rollback planning.
Provide leadership on performance tuning, readiness assessments, and post-migration stabilization.
