Job summary

Slalom is seeking a Senior Database Migration Engineer to support an AI-powered modernization platform that automates large-scale migrations to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL. You will be the technical authority on migration of legacy databases, partnering with cloud architects, AI engineers, and platform teams to resolve edge cases and ensure data integrity.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or database migration initiatives.
• Deep expertise with legacy database platforms including IBM DB2, Sybase ASE, Oracle Database.
• Experience leading heterogeneous migrations to PostgreSQL or cloud-native DB services.
• Strong SQL development and data validation skills.
• Experience with AWS DMS and SCT for migration projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead troubleshooting of complex database migration issues across DB2, Sybase, Oracle and others.
• Serve as escalation point for AI-driven schema conversions and reconciliation failures.
• Design and implement migration strategies from legacy databases to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Support DMS and SCT implementations, including full-load and CDC patterns.
• Validate schema transformations, procedures, queries, indexes, and data conversion results.
• Collaborate with engineers to improve automation and AI migration agents.
• Develop reusable migration templates, best practices, and validation frameworks.
• Work with client DBAs and application teams to understand source constraints and risks.
• Ensure production cutovers with rigorous data validation and rollback planning.
• Provide leadership on performance tuning and post-migration stabilization.
