Job summary

Slalom is seeking a Senior Database Migration Engineer for a remote, project-based contract. You will lead migration projects from legacy databases (DB2, Sybase, Oracle) to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, guiding AI-assisted schema conversions and data validation.

You will work with cloud architects, AI engineers, and platform teams to resolve migration edge cases, validate outcomes, and ensure data integrity throughout the lifecycle. Start ASAP with through 2/5/27 and potential extension.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in database engineering, administration, or migration.
• Deep expertise with legacy platforms such as IBM DB2, Sybase ASE, and Oracle Database.
• Proven experience leading heterogeneous migrations to PostgreSQL or cloud-native services.
• Strong knowledge of AWS DMS and SCT; data validation and performance tuning.
• Excellent communication with architects, engineers, DBAs, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead troubleshooting of complex migration issues across legacy platforms.
• Serve as escalation point for AI-driven schema conversions and reconciliation failures.
• Design and implement migration strategies from legacy DBs to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Support DMS and SCT implementations, including full-load and CDC patterns.
• Validate schema transformations, procedures, queries, indexes, and data conversions.
• Identify edge cases and collaborate to improve automation and AI migration agents.
• Develop reusable templates, best practices, and validation frameworks.
• Collaborate with client DBAs and app teams to assess constraints and risks.
• Ensure successful production cutovers with data validation and rollback planning.
• Provide leadership on performance tuning and migration readiness assessments.
