Job summary

Slalom is seeking a Senior Database Migration Engineer to drive AI-powered modernization by migrating legacy databases to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL. You will serve as the technical authority on complex migrations, coordinate with cloud architects, AI engineers, and platform developers, and ensure data integrity during the migration lifecycle.

The role focuses on DB2, Sybase, and Oracle migrations, with hands-on AWS DMS and SCT.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in database engineering, administration, or migration initiatives.
• Expertise with legacy databases IBM DB2, Sybase ASE, Oracle Database.
• Proven experience leading heterogeneous migrations to PostgreSQL or cloud-native DB services.
• Hands-on AWS DMS and SCT experience.
• Strong SQL development and data validation skills.
• Ability to communicate with architects, DBAs, engineers, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead troubleshooting of complex migration issues across DB2, Sybase, Oracle and other legacy systems.
• Serve as escalation point for AI-driven schema conversions and migration reconciliation.
• Design and implement migration strategies from legacy databases to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Support AWS DMS and SCT implementations including full-load and CDC patterns.
• Validate schema transformations, procedures, queries, indexes, and data conversions.
• Identify edge cases and work with teams to improve automation and AI migration agents.
• Develop reusable migration templates, best practices, and validation frameworks.
• Collaborate with client DBAs and application teams on source constraints and risks.
• Ensure successful production cutovers with data validation and rollback planning.
• Provide leadership on performance tuning and post-migration stabilization.
