Job summary

BambooHR is seeking a Senior Data Governance Engineer to ensure data is trusted, well-defined, and ready to power better decisions. You’ll scale data governance, define metrics, and collaborate with business and engineering teams to improve data quality and accessibility.

You will help govern AI-driven data products, protect PII, and contribute to a robust data catalog and stewardship program across the company.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data governance, data analytics, or related roles.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working directly with data.
• Experience improving data quality and working with large datasets.
• Familiarity with data platforms (data warehouse, lakehouse, etc.)
• Familiarity with common enterprise applications and associated data domains.
• Understanding of how metrics, reporting, and self-service analytics work.
• Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Make Data More Trusted: identify and resolve data quality issues; protect key data pathways; validate data for accuracy and consistency; build AI agents to certified data assets.
• Help Define “One Version of the Truth”: document key metrics and KPIs; support data certification; align reporting and semantic models.
• Improve Data Discoverability: contribute to data catalog and KPI library; manage data asset tools; document definitions and ownership; add context to data.
• Support Data Governance Across the Company: work with data stewards and business leaders; scale governance practices; ensure protection of PII and sensitive data; manage data owner relationships.
• Help Govern AI & Data-Powered Experiences: govern AI-driven tools; ensure AI uses the right data with controls; contribute to transparent, runnable AI outputs.
