Job summary

Databricks is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to lead production-grade data and AI projects for enterprise customers in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will own architecture, design decisions and end-to-end implementations spanning data engineering, AI, and application development.

The role is customer-facing, highly collaborative with engineering, product and customer teams, and requires travel to customers about 20% of the time.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms or software engineering.
• Proficient in Python, Scala, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Cloud experience in two or more ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP) with depth in at least one.
• Deep experience with distributed computing using Apache Spark; knowledge of Spark internals.
• Familiarity with CI/CD for production deployments.
• Experience with MLOps and AI models; able to integrate ML/AI APIs.
• Strong architecture design for end-to-end data pipelines and apps.
• Excellent documentation and white-boarding skills.
• Experience with enterprise clients and stakeholder management.
• Willingness to travel ~20%.

Responsibilities

• Lead production-grade delivery of data/AI projects and reference architectures.
• Guide strategic customers implementing end-to-end big data projects.
• Bootstrap or implement customer projects to ensure adoption of Databricks.
• Own architecture decisions to ensure secure, scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering, PM, architect and customer teams to deliver components.
• Provide product and support feedback to guide rapid resolution of issues.
• Embed with customer teams to understand challenges and deliver impact.
• Develop accelerators, frameworks, and best practices that scale across accounts.
