Job summary

McMillen, Inc. seeks a Senior Dam Safety Engineer - FERC-IC to join our team. The role requires a PE license, 15+ years of dam safety consulting, and strong FERC Part 12D experience. You will collaborate with clients on federally regulated hydroelectric projects and may work fully remote with flexible hours.

You will lead dam safety evaluations, produce reports, and mentor junior staff while coordinating with regulators and stakeholders. Strong communication and project management are essential.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering is required; MS preferred.
• Active PE license in good standing is required.
• 15+ years of engineering consulting experience including FERC Part 12D and dam safety evaluations.
• Experience as FERC-approved Independent Consultant or CDSE is a plus.
• PMFA/L2RA facilitator experience on a FERC-regulated project or eligibility.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state dam safety standards/guidelines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, including proposal development.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, GeoStudio, AllPile, Rocscience, and/or HEC-RAS.

Responsibilities

• Perform dam safety related work including FERC Part 12D inspections.
• Lead or participate in PFMA and L2RA workshops.
• Oversee hydrological, geotechnical, and structural evaluations of dams, embankments, dikes, and levees.
• Prepare and review dam safety reports (DSSMRs, O&M Manuals, PSPs, ODSPs, EAPs, STI).
• Manage clients, projects, and deliverables.
• Provide dam safety training and lead EAP exercises with clients.
• Conduct meetings, present findings, and guide clients/regulators/boards.
• Lead or support remedial designs for earthfill and concrete dams.
• Mentor junior staff on dam safety.
• Support marketing, proposals, cost estimates, and scheduling.
• Assist in subcontractor selection for dam safety activities.
