Job summary

Bluefors in Syracuse, NY is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to design, develop, and test advanced cryogenic systems and instruments. You will translate research concepts into production-ready designs using SolidWorks and perform thermal, hydraulic, and structural analyses.

Collaborating with scientists and cross-functional teams, you will build, test, and optimize cryogenic equipment such as dilution refrigerators and cryocoolers, while documenting SOPs, BOMs, and technical reports.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or Physics required or related field.
• PhD strongly preferred for research leadership roles.
• Experience with cryogenic systems and hands-on lab work.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop cryogenic products and instruments using CAD (SolidWorks).
• Translate research concepts into prototypes and production designs.
• Conduct cryogenic research and evaluate new concepts.
• Perform thermal, hydraulic, and structural analyses.
• Build, assemble, validate, and test cryogenic systems.
• Develop and execute test plans to verify performance and safety.
• Create detailed drawings using GD&T principles.
• Generate BOMs, SOPs, and technical reports.
• Operate and maintain cryogenic equipment including dilution refrigerators and cryocoolers.
• Diagnose system issues and implement corrective actions.
