Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to plan and direct security staff within a medium/maximum security facility in Columbia. Responsibilities include overseeing inmate custody, facility security, and adherence to safety/OSHA standards.

Occasional investigations and counts are required. Requirements include a high school diploma with relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Three years of correctional, security, military, or police work with supervisory experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff in a medium/maximum security facility.
• Oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned unit(s).
• Performs routine unit checks to ensure duties are performed safely and OSHA standards are met.
• Assists with inmate counts for accuracy and investigates complaints and disputes.
• Oversees security of buildings and public property.
