Job summary

The State of South Carolina is hiring for a security supervision role in a medium security facility. You will plan, coordinate, and direct security staff, overseeing custody and control of inmates and ensuring the safety of buildings and property.

You will participate in counts, investigate complaints, and arbitrate disputes. Candidates must meet education requirements and complete SCDC training within six months of entry.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for required experience.
• Three years in correctional, security, military, or police work, including one year supervisory experience.
• Degree in criminal justice may substitute supervisory experience year-for-year.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in a medium security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks to ensure staff perform duties properly, safety standards are met and OSHA standards observed.
• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and disputes among inmates and staff.
