Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee security personnel assigned to housing units and manage custody and control of inmates. The role requires conducting investigations, supervising counts, and ensuring compliance with security and safety standards.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and relevant experience, with bachelor’s degree able to substitute for some experience.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security assigned to housing units and supervise custody and control of inmates.
• Perform routine inspections of living areas for compliance with security, safety and sanitation standards.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel.
• Assist in conducting counts; supervise performance and evaluations of staff.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to required standards.
• Prepare reports as needed or required; perform Shift Lieutenant duties when necessary.
