Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Supervisory Security Unit Manager within the Department of Corrections. Under supervision of the shift Lieutenant, you will oversee security personnel and inmates, ensuring safety and order.

You will lead briefings and training, conduct inspections for safety and OSHA standards, and prepare written reports. The role requires a HS diploma and relevant experience, with degree substitution allowed for experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience; a related degree may substitute for part of the experience.
• Must be certified by SCDC Training Academy.
• Must complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Supervise security personnel assigned to the unit and oversee inmate management.
• Assist with employee evaluations, corrective actions, and counseling as needed.
• Conduct unannounced inspections to ensure proper duties and safety standards.
• Lead briefings and training for all security staff in the unit.
• Perform routine inspections of the unit, devices, gates, and OSHA compliance.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct and mediate to resolution.
• Assist in counts and prepare required written reports.
