Qualifications

• High school diploma plus relevant experience; bachelor’s degree may substitute for required experience.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with at least one year in a supervisory role; a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs security staff actions and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in a level two facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Performs routine unit checks to ensure staff duties and OSHA standards are met and that cleanliness is maintained.
• Assists with inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and disputes among inmates and correctional staff.
• Assigned to the shock incarceration program.
