Job summary

The State of South Carolina's Department of Corrections seeks a security supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of security staff and oversee inmate custody in a medium/maximum security facility. You will assume primary responsibility for security across buildings and public property.

Duties include routine unit checks, ensuring staff perform duties safely and OSHA standards are met, assisting with inmate counts, and investigating complaints and disputes within the inmate

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; relevant experience.
• 3 years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include 1 year of supervisory experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct the actions of the security staff and oversee security, custody, and control of inmates in assigned unit(s).
• Assume primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Make routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assist with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and violations; arbitrate disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.

Education

Bachelor's degree (related field)

Criminal justice degree substitute for supervisory experience
