Job summary

Barry‑Wehmiller Design Group in Winston‑Salem/Greensboro area seeks a Controls Engineer to join a leading control system integration practice. You will work with industry experts to deliver high‑quality automation solutions for major manufacturing clients, including capital project support and start‑up activities.

Ideal candidates bring 3+ years in industrial controls, PLC/SCADA design experience, UL508A knowledge, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

Proficiency in control systems and troubleshooting in high‑intensity environments.
3+ years of direct experience as a controls engineer in industrial manufacturing (food/bev, etc).
Experience designing automation control systems (PLC, SCADA).
Understanding of UL508A panel design and fabrication.
Understanding of instrumentation and controls (I&C).
Experience with engineering documentation (P&IDs, PFDs, SOPs).
Experience with field instrumentation, control system installation, and configuration.
Familiarity with machine safety, electrical power distribution, and control panel design.
Strong written and verbal technical communication for reports and presentations.
Willingness to travel for project requirements.

Responsibilities

Develop automation solutions and participate in design, configuration, testing, commissioning, and start-up of automated manufacturing processes.
Design automation control systems and produce project documentation and drawings.
Diagnose automation problems and interface with teams, clients, and vendors.
Configure software/hardware per client specifications; program PLCs and SCADA systems.
Manage project deliverables, schedule, and site installation/start-up activities.
Validate systems and ensure turnover to the customer.
