Job summary

General Motors in Toledo, OH is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead automation initiatives on the production floor. This on-site role requires a hands-on, highly motivated engineer to design, troubleshoot, and optimize electrical control systems for high-volume manufacturing.

You will collaborate with maintenance, quality, and manufacturing teams, apply continuous improvement methods, and mentor electricians while delivering reliable, safe equipment and processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field, or equivalent technical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• 5+ years of Industrial Control System experience.
• Proficient in PLC and HMI programming.
• Troubleshooting servo and VFD systems.
• Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and diagnose electrical problems in manufacturing operations.
• Design and modify electrical control circuits and programs.
• Perform a wide range of engineering tasks on robotic systems using engineering software and hardware.
• Lead technical problem solving with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement.
• Troubleshoot Industrial Vision Systems (Fanuc, Keyence, PhotoNeo, Matrox).
• Support existing production through troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions.
• Support and implement Throughput Improvement and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
• Implement new technology to improve manufacturing processes.
• Support and/or train skilled electricians.
• Maintain electrical equipment and plan electrical projects.
• Collaborate across organizational levels and manage multiple complex projects.
