Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Manufacturing Controls Engineer to lead the engineering of automated manufacturing systems across GM’s global operations. You will design and commission PLCs, HMIs, drives, and safety systems, align with GM standards, and drive plant launches and upgrades.

Travel up to 25–50% domestically/internationally will be required. You will partner with manufacturing engineering, IT, suppliers, and Global Automation teams to deliver safe, reliable, standardized,

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical/Controls/Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in manufacturing controls/automation engineering.
  • Experience designing, programming, integrating, and commissioning automated equipment.
  • Strong PLC/HMI, drives, safety controls and industrial networks knowledge.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, panel layouts, and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead controls engineering execution from concept to production launch.
  • Develop, review, and approve hardware/software designs for PLCs/HMIs.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and validate automated equipment and production lines.
  • Apply GM Global Common Controls standards for safety and cybersecurity.
  • Manage project scope, timing, risks, and supplier engagements.
  • Collaborate with plant ops, IT, robotics, and engineering teams.
