Job summary

Magna Powertrain in Shelby Township, MI is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead advanced control system development in a high‑volume manufacturing environment. The role requires expert PLC programming (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley), robotics, and MES/SCADA/IIoT experience.

You will mentor junior engineers, interpret electrical schematics, and drive continuous improvement across multiple projects in a collaborative on‑site team. This is a full‑time on‑site position with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in a controls engineering role in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably in a Tier 1 supplier, automotive OEM, and/or integrator designing/building/commissioning automation equipment.
• Expert proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley), industrial robotics, and network protocols (Ethernet/IP, OPC UA).
• Hands-on experience with MES, SCADA, IIoT, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
• Strong analytical skills, problem-solving mindset, and ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
• Must be able to interpret and design electrical schematics.
• Mentoring and leadership experience, with a passion for developing junior engineers.
• Must be continuous improvement minded and must understand the “7 wastes” to write effective programs.
• Must have ability to multitask.
• Must be adaptable, striving to find creative solutions to problems as they arise.

Responsibilities

• Lead control system development for high-volume manufacturing.
• Design and commission automation equipment for Tier 1 suppliers, automotive OEMs, and/or integrators.
• Program PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and integrate robotics.
• Work with MES, SCADA, IIoT, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
• Interpret and design electrical schematics.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
