Job summary

ClearGov is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting organization for a growing SaaS business. You will ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting and a scalable close process.

Reporting to the CFO, you will own the close, lead audits and tax processes, establish strong internal controls, and develop a high-performing accounting team across locations. The role blends strategic oversight with hands-on involvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership roles (Controller/Assistant Controller).
• Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and strong technical accounting capabilities.
• Experience leading external financial statement audits.
• Experience overseeing corporate tax compliance with external advisors.
• Strong internal controls knowledge and design experience.
• Experience building and developing accounting teams in a SaaS/high-growth setting.
• Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidations.
• Proficient ERP and financial systems experience; advanced Excel and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations: GL, A/P, A/R, payroll, fixed assets, accruals, intercompany, revenue recognition.
• Own monthly/quarterly/annual close; improve speed, accuracy, discipline of close.
• Prepare/review financial statements per U.S. GAAP.
• Ensure reconciliations and controls across the balance sheet.
• Establish policies, procedures, and documentation; maintain internal controls.
• Research technical accounting matters; apply GAAP accurately.
• Manage and develop accounting team; cross-location collaboration.
• Lead external audits and tax compliance; liaison with auditors/advisors.
