Job summary

Morrison Mahoney LLP is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting function, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance for the firm. This senior role balances strategic financial guidance with hands-on execution to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

You will oversee trust/IOLTA accounting, GAAP compliance, audits, and system upgrades, partnering with leadership and a dedicated accounting team to drive the firm’s financial health and operational success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
• 8+ years accounting/finance experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role (professional services or law firm experience preferred).
• Expertise in law firm accounting, trust/IOLTA account management, and legal billing structures.
• Proficiency with Elite and Aderant; advanced Excel skills (TEXTJOIN, XLOOKUP).

Responsibilities

• Financial Management & Reporting - Lead all core accounting functions, including AP/AR, trust/IOLTA accounts, and general ledger; produce monthly, quarterly and annual statements; manage budgets and forecasts; oversee tax filings and cash flow; provide performance insights.
• Compliance & Internal Controls - Maintain strong internal controls; ensure compliance with IOLTA and tax regulations; oversee audits and payroll; lead system upgrades and process improvements per GAAP.
• Team Leadership - Supervise accounting staff; mentor and train; manage vendors and payments; provide financial guidance to attorneys and admin teams.
